We'd rather over-tell you the limits of an AI tutor than have you discover them by surprise. This page says plainly what Mathey can't promise. It sits alongside our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

AI makes mistakes

Mathey's coaching, hints, question generation and marking are produced by artificial intelligence. Despite the safeguards we build — independent answer verification before stars are awarded, constrained conversation, parent-visible transcripts — the AI will sometimes get things wrong:

  • A hint may point in an unhelpful direction, or misread your child's handwriting.
  • A generated question may occasionally be ambiguous or flawed.
  • An explanation may use a method different from the one your child's school teaches.
  • The voice transcription may mishear what your child said.

If something looks wrong to you or your child, trust that instinct — and we'd love to hear about it so we can improve.

Parents should stay close

We recommend that a parent or guardian accompanies their child during sessions, particularly for younger children and the first few sessions. Mathey is designed to be safe to use independently — it stays on the maths and everything is visible in your dashboard — but an AI tool for children works best with an adult nearby, and no automated safeguard replaces parental supervision.

Not a replacement for school or professionals

  • Mathey is a practice and coaching aid, not a school, a qualified teacher, or a formal assessment of your child's ability.
  • Progress reports and mastery grids are indicative signals from practice sessions — not diagnostic instruments, and not a substitute for teacher judgement or a formal educational assessment.
  • If you have concerns about your child's learning (for example a suspected learning difficulty), please speak with their teacher or a qualified professional.

Curriculum alignment

Mathey's content is written to follow the Victorian Curriculum F–10 (version 2.0) Mathematics. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority or the Victorian Department of Education. Schools vary in sequencing and method, so what Mathey practises this week may not match your child's classroom exactly.

No guaranteed outcomes

We built Mathey because deliberate, coached practice genuinely helps — but no tool can promise improved grades, test results or confidence. Learning outcomes depend on your child, their school, and a hundred things beyond any app.

Service availability

Mathey depends on third-party AI, voice and hosting providers. Occasionally a session may be interrupted or a feature degraded by an outage upstream of us. We design for graceful failure, but can't promise uninterrupted availability.
